Black Kids Swim Olympic Countdown – The Black Line
We are just six days away from the 2016 Olympic swimming events! Over the past week Black Kids Swim has highlighted talented Black swimmers who may earn the chance to represent the United States on a future Olympic swim team. This year, there are three African Americans on the U.S. swim team – but why aren’t there more?
For our 7th day of the Black Kids Swim Olympic Countdown, we highlight the documentary “The Black Line” and invite YOU to attend a free screening on Wednesday Aug. 10 at the Bowie library from 6:30 to 8:30pm. (15210 Annapolis Rd. Bowie MD 20715).
The Black Line Movie, addresses the history of Blacks and swimming in the United States. This must-see film explains how the exclusion of Blacks from safe swimming locations led to drownings, fear of the water, and underrepresentation of Blacks in the sport of competitive swimming. The film also interviews elite coaches and Black swimmers in order to show how the sport is changing.
